NCLEX-PN — Practical/Vocational Nurse Licensing Exam (NCSBN)
📖 Description
The NCLEX-PN (National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses) is the official licensing exam administered by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) for practical/vocational nurses across the United States and Canada. This 80-hour intensive preparation program covers every domain of the NCSBN test plan: Safe and Effective Care Environment, Health Promotion and Maintenance, Psychosocial Integrity, and Physiological Integrity (Basic Care & Comfort, Pharmacological Therapies, Reduction of Risk Potential, Physiological Adaptation).
This course is designed for internationally educated nurses (IENs) preparing for U.S. or Canadian licensure (NCLEX-PN is recognized in all 50 US states and most Canadian provinces excluding Quebec), LPN/LVN students completing their final-year clerkship, and Quebec nursing graduates pursuing cross-border mobility (CLPNA Alberta, CLPNBC British Columbia, CLPNNL Newfoundland). Prerequisites: completion of an accredited Practical Nursing program or equivalent international diploma, basic English proficiency (CLB 7+), and clinical familiarity with adult and geriatric care.
At the end of this course, you will master the Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT) algorithm, recognize all alternate format items (multiple response, drag-and-drop, hot spot, fill-in-the-blank calculations, ordered response, chart/exhibit, audio/graphic), and apply NCSBN-validated clinical reasoning frameworks (ADPIE nursing process, Maslow hierarchy, ABCs prioritization, delegation 5 rights, infection control standards).
The NCLEX-PN exam comprises 85 to 205 questions (minimum 85, maximum 205) administered in 5 hours via CAT format. The pass standard (-0.18 logits since 2023) requires the candidate to demonstrate competence above the passing threshold with 95% confidence interval. Approximately 81-86% of US-educated and 65-72% of internationally educated candidates pass on first attempt (NCSBN 2024 statistics).
Duration: 80 hours over 8-12 weeks recommended (5 modules + 1 mock CAT + 1 final exam). Includes 5 in-depth lessons, integrated NCLEX-style quizzes, one mock exam (25 questions), and one final exam (50 questions) reproducing the NCSBN format with detailed rationales.
