Want to start driving in Ontario with confidence and safety? The Ontario G1 Licence — Road Rules course is your first step toward driving independence. Designed around the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) Driver's Handbook, this A2-level programme prepares future drivers to master the essential rules of the road.
This course is intended for anyone wishing to obtain their Class G driver's licence in Ontario, whether they are newcomers, permanent residents, international students, or first-time drivers. It is ideal for those starting their driving education from scratch and looking for a solid, structured preparation aligned with Ontario's regulatory requirements.
No prerequisites are needed to start this course. You will progress naturally through the fundamental concepts of the Highway Traffic Act: road signs and signals, right-of-way rules, speed limits, parking regulations, sharing the road with vulnerable users, and safe driving behaviours.
By the end of this training, you will be able to interpret every category of MTO road sign (regulatory, warning, temporary, school zone, information, services), apply traffic rules in real-world situations, understand the signals of police and traffic officers, manage safe following distances, and anticipate potential hazards. You will also master a driver's legal responsibilities and the essential safety habits required on Ontario roads.
The programme is fully aligned with the official MTO G1 knowledge test format. The written theory exam consists of 40 multiple-choice questions split into two sections: 20 on rules of the road and 20 on road signs. You must score at least 80% in EACH section (16/20) to pass. The test is delivered on a touchscreen computer at a DriveTest centre, alongside a vision test.
Total estimated duration is 20 to 30 hours of study, covering theory review, chapter quizzes, and full-length mock simulations. This progressive learning path prepares you effectively for the Ontario G1 test and lays the foundation for your future G2 and full G road tests.
Put this course into practice with an official-format mock exam.
