Are you preparing to drive in Alberta and seeking a complete, structured way to obtain your first Canadian driver's licence? The Alberta Driver's Licence — Class 7 & Class 5 course is designed around the Alberta Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) Program managed by Alberta Transportation and Alberta Registries, with reference materials from the Alberta Motor Association (AMA). This English-language, A2-level programme guides newcomers, international students and young drivers living in Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer, Lethbridge, Fort McMurray or anywhere in Alberta through every step of the licensing process.
This course is intended for first-time drivers, permanent residents, newcomers and youth aged 14 and over who want to obtain a Class 7 Learner licence, progress to Class 5-GDL Probationary and ultimately reach the full Class 5 driver's licence. It is also suitable for new Alberta residents who arrive with a non-Canadian licence that cannot be exchanged directly. No prior driving experience is required.
At the end of this training, you will be able to confidently answer questions on Alberta road signs (regulatory, warning, school, construction and information), apply the Alberta Traffic Safety Act on right-of-way, master Alberta speed limits and school zones, understand GDL zero-alcohol tolerance, comply with the 9-demerit-point limit for Class 5-GDL drivers, and follow the entire process from knowledge test to Class 5 Advanced Road Test. You will also learn how to book a test at any Alberta Registries agent.
The Class 7 Knowledge Test contains 30 multiple-choice questions drawn from the official Alberta Driver's Guide. You must answer at least 24 out of 30 correctly to pass (80%). The test is delivered on-screen at any Alberta Registries office, alongside a vision test. After at least 12 months in Class 7 (no traffic convictions), you may book the Class 5 Basic Road Test (Standard Road Test). After 24 months in Class 5-GDL, you may book the Class 5 Advanced Road Test for your full licence.
Total estimated study time is 50 to 60 hours, including theory review, lesson quizzes, a 25-question mock exam, and a full 50-question final exam reproducing the official Alberta Class 7 Knowledge Test format. This progressive learning path prepares you effectively for the Alberta Class 7 knowledge test and lays the foundation for both road tests.
Put this course into practice with an official-format mock exam.
