Are you preparing to drive in Atlantic Canada and seeking a comprehensive way to obtain your first Canadian driver's licence? The Atlantic Canada Driver's Licence course covers the four provincial graduated licensing programs of Nova Scotia (NS), New Brunswick (NB), Prince Edward Island (PEI), and Newfoundland and Labrador (NL). This English-language, A2-level programme guides newcomers, international students and young drivers living in Halifax, Moncton, Fredericton, Saint John, Charlottetown, St. John's, or anywhere in the Maritime provinces through every step of the licensing process.
This course is intended for first-time drivers, permanent residents, newcomers and youth aged 16 and over who want to obtain their first driver's licence in any of the four Atlantic provinces. While each province has its own road safety authority — Service Nova Scotia, Service New Brunswick, Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (PEI) and Service NL — they share very similar Graduated Licensing systems. No prior driving experience is required.
At the end of this training, you will be able to confidently answer questions on common Atlantic road signs (regulatory, warning, school, construction and information), apply each province's Motor Vehicle Act on right-of-way and speed limits, understand zero-alcohol tolerance for all GDL drivers, recognize the specifics of maritime weather (fog, ice, snow, hurricane remnants), and prepare for the provincial knowledge tests. You will also learn how to book your test in each province.
Knowledge tests in Atlantic Canada follow the same general structure — 30 to 40 multiple-choice questions drawn from the provincial drivers' handbook with an 80% pass mark. The test is delivered at any Service NS / Service NB / DTI PEI / Service NL office, alongside a vision screening. After the Learner stage (12 months minimum, or 3 months with Driver Education), you may book the Road Test for Class 5 Newly Licenced. After 24 months in Class 5N (NS) or equivalent, you graduate to full Class 5.
Total estimated study time is 40 to 50 hours, including theory review, lesson quizzes, a 25-question mock exam, and a 50-question final exam mixing all four provincial frameworks. This progressive learning path prepares you effectively for any Atlantic province's Class 7L / Class 5L knowledge test and lays the foundation for the road test.
Put this course into practice with an official-format mock exam.
