Are you preparing to drive in British Columbia and aiming to obtain your first Canadian driver's licence? The British Columbia Driver's Licence — Class 7 & Class 5 course is designed around the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) Graduated Licensing Program (GLP) and the official Province of British Columbia road safety framework administered by RoadSafetyBC. This English-language, A2-level programme guides newcomers, international students, and youth living in Vancouver, Victoria, Surrey, Burnaby, or anywhere in BC, through every requirement of the ICBC knowledge test and road tests.
This course is intended for first-time drivers, permanent residents, newcomers and youth aged 16 and over who want to obtain a Class 7L learner permit, progress to Class 7N novice driver, and ultimately reach the Class 5 full driver's licence. It is also suitable for new residents who must restart the licensing process in BC after holding a non-Canadian licence not eligible for direct exchange. No driving prerequisite is required to start.
At the end of this training, you will be able to confidently answer questions on BC road signs (regulatory, warning, school, construction and information), apply the Motor Vehicle Act rules on right-of-way, master speed limits and school zones, understand BC's strict 0% BAC zero tolerance for Learner and Novice drivers, and follow the GLP restrictions step by step. You will also learn how to book a knowledge test, road test and Class 5 road test at ICBC.
The ICBC Class 7 Knowledge Test consists of 50 multiple-choice questions drawn from the official Learn to Drive Smart guide. You must answer at least 40 out of 50 correctly to pass (80%). The test is delivered on-screen at any ICBC driver licensing office, alongside a vision screening. After at least 12 months in Class 7L (with no violations), you may book the Class 7 Road Test. After 24 months in Class 7N, you may book the Class 5 Road Test for your full licence.
Total estimated study time is 50 to 60 hours, including theory review, lesson quizzes, a 25-question mock exam, and a full 50-question final exam reproducing the official ICBC format. This progressive learning path prepares you effectively for the ICBC Class 7 knowledge test and lays the foundation for both BC road tests.
Put this course into practice with an official-format mock exam.
